Goddard Keeps Errors To A Minimum In Wins Over Clovis

CCSR Report    It was another strong showing at home for the Goddard Rockets Tuesday afternoon, this time against 5A Clovis. They swept the Wildcats 8-3, 5-1.  Game two got off to a slow start as the Rockets fell behind 1-0 after two innings. They’d come alive midway through the game as they’ve grown accustomed to doing this season. Josh Wagner got the party started with an inside-the-park homerun to tie the game up in the bottom of the third.  Derek Farmer’s double in the bottom of the fourth would give Goddard a slight 2-1 lead. The Rockets loaded the bases up in that inning but only came away with one run. They left a total of six men stranded on base in the game.  Wagner would hit a single that scored two in the bottom of the sixth, followed by an RBI double by Tommy Perea to put the game away, 5-1.  Ricky Roybal was the winning pitcher in the second game. He threw a total of seven strikeouts in the game.  Errors is something head coach Alan Edmonson said they’ve got to get under control, and the Rockets may be on their way to doing that. They had just one in game two.  Goddard begins district play next week, when they head down to Artesia for a double-header.

Goddard High Steamrolls Santa Teresa

CCSR Report    The Goddard Rockets put on an offensive clinic at home Saturday as they swept Santa Teresa 18-5, 15-5.  Game two started off slow for the Rockets and they fell behind 5-1 after two innings. They came alive in the third scoring eight runs and never looked back. After last week’s rough go in Rio Rancho, Goddard head coach Alan Edmonson said offense was definitely something they worked on.  “We had just been inconsistent offensively,” he said. “ we hit the ball incredibly hard, we hit it all over the field and that was our focus all week in practice, so I’m pleased with the way the kids came out and swung the bats today.”  He said his team’s success at the plate was a combination of patience and confidence.  On the horizon is district play and Edmonson said he needs his team to play smarter as well as keep up the effort on offense.  “Offensively I think we’re ok,” he said. “...we’re still making some dumb mistakes on the field defensively that we need to clean up...” The 7-3 Rockets host Clovis on Tuesday at 1 and 3 p.m.    For more pictures from Goddard’s game against Santa Teresa, check out the CCSR Photo Gallery.
