New Mexico Military Institute Dir. of Tennis Gene Hardman passed away at an Albuquerque hospital on Sunday after a short battle with Good Pasture’s Syndrome, an illness similar to pneumonia, that according to NMMI Sports Information Dir. Geoff Gunn.
Gunn told KBIM radio news that Hardman was transported to Albuquerque after he could not be treated for the illness here in Roswell.
“When they took him up to the hospital, I believe they thought that he had pneumonia,” Gunn said. “The hospital here realized that it was a severe case that they could not treat as well as they could in Albuquerque and that’s why they moved him up there.”
Hardman had been in Albuquerque for over a week before succumbing to the illness on Sunday.
Gunn adds that Hardman was a two sport All American in football and baseball at NMMI. He also coached several state tennis championships at the school.
