While the Coyotes boys were battling tooth and nail vs. Carlsbad in Carlsbad, the Lady Coyotes had a much easier time of it at home, downing Carlsbad 47-20 in a game that was never close.
With Shanice Steenholdt finally back in the lineup, the Coyotes (11-7) have now won three straight vs. AAAAA teams, and coach Joe Carpenter is happy to have the junior back on board.
“You add Shanice to the mix, and it changes our dynamics. We finally got the rotation in that we wanted to, and things are working pretty good right now. We’re getting better at it,” he said. “She’s making Desirae Allen better now, having her on the floor, and Rikki Ornelas. I think it’s going to benefit us in the long run.”
With the starters on the floor in the first half, Roswell jumped out to a 25-4 first-quarter lead then stretched that to 36-8 at the half.
Allen scored all of her team-leading nine points in the first half, and Steenholdt got her eight in the first quarter.

Ornelas and Dianna Carrillo also added eight apiece, but with the starters on the bench for almost all of the second half, the Cavegirls (13-8) still only outscored Roswell 13-12 in the half.
The Coyotes will try to make it 4-for-4 against AAAAA teams Thursday when they travel to Clovis for a game rescheduled because of snow last weekend.
The Wildcats are in the top five in AAAAA, so they’ll be Roswell’s toughest opponent since Las Cruces early this season.
